- Ford says the front brake lines may rub against the engine air cleaner outlet pipe.
- 223,315 Ford Expeditions are involved alongside 50,474 Lincoln Navigators.
- Owners will start to be notified of the recall via mail on May 26, before repairs begin.
Brakes are, unsurprisingly, pretty important when it comes to stopping a car. So it’s no surprise that when Ford found out some of its vehicles might be leaking brake fluid, they had no choice but to issue a massive recall in the United States.

A total of 273,789 vehicles are affected, including the Expedition and Navigator models, both of which have more than enough road presence to draw attention. Unfortunately, not for the right reasons this time.

The problem? According to Ford’s recall notice, the front brake lines in some models may make contact with the engine air cleaner outlet pipe. This happens because, during assembly, the brake lines could be bent while the engine is installed. And if there’s anything that should never be bent on a car, it’s a brake line, especially one near something as important as the engine.
In the event of a brake leak, the brake pedal travel may be extended and reduce deceleration. If there’s a rapid loss of brake fluid, drivers could be in real danger and have trouble stopping. Obviously, that increases the risk of a crash. If there’s any good news for Ford, it’s that it has not received any reports of accidents or injuries related to the issue.
A total of 223,315 Ford Expedition models from the 2022-2024 model years are impacted. These SUVs were produced between April 15, 2021, and November 20, 2024. An additional 50,474 Lincoln Navigators from the same model years are also involved and were built between those same dates.
As of April 17, 2025, Ford was aware of 45 warranty reports of front brake line leaks, two field reports, and two Customer Service Reports, all related to the issue. It was first alerted to a potential problem on February 27, 2025.
Owners of impacted models will be alerted to the recall via mail starting May 26. Dealers have been instructed to inspect the front brake line for proper clearances and, if required, will replace the brake lines and air cleaner outlet pipe.
