If you are in the market for a Range Rover that doesn’t just look the part, but also goes really fast, then the new Range Rover Sport SV Black might be perfect. Bathed entirely in black, it’s just about as menacing as it gets, and backs its looks up with a powerful powertrain. Unlike the short-lived SV Edition One and Edition Two, the SV Black will be a permanent member of the Range Rover family.

Just like Henry Ford famously said about the Model T, Range Rover Sport SV Black buyers can have it in any color they want as long as it’s black. In this case, the super SUV is offered exclusively in Narvik Black, which is complemented by the Narvik Gloss Black Exterior Pack.

Key features include a carbon fiber hood that’s been painted black, Gloss Black 23-inch forged wheels, Gloss Black brake calipers, and Gloss Black tailpipes. Land Rover has then blacked out the SUV’s grille and all exterior badges. It all looks rather stealthy and is bound to appeal to those who want a fast SUV that looks much more understated than anything from the likes of Ferrari, Lamborghini, or Bentley.
Matching the exterior is a similarly dark interior. Ebony Windsor leather adorns most surfaces, while there’s also plenty of piano black plastic, too. A fingerprint magnet, sure, but it does match the SUV’s overall dark theme.
Just like other versions of the Range Rover Sport SV, the Black uses a BMW-derived 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 with mild-hybrid technology that pumps out 626 hp and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque. That’s good enough to rocket the regular Sport SV to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.8 seconds, but the Black is actually a tad quicker, reaching 60 mph in 3.6 seconds and maxing out at 165 mph (266 km/h).
Land Rover will showcase the new SUV at this month’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, while order books will open later in the year.
